I think this cartoon, from xkcd.com (a really funny site if you want to check it out), adds a certain statement about how quickly linguistic imperialism, change or elimination of languages as the result of conquering, is overlooked in debates on language. In fact even the Queen's English is a decendent of a combination of early French and German languages superimposed on one another through conquest.
